We spend millions of dollars and thousands of hours every year developing solutions that fail to deliver due to poorly articulating business requirements. Data models prevent this waste by capturing a common business vocabulary and set of precise requirements at varying levels of detail, ensuring fluid communication across business and IT.
Take the Data Modeling Master Class to become competent in data modeling. The Data Modeling Master Class is the course on data modeling, and is offered virtually twice a year publicly or as a dedicated class just for your group. This data modeling training class assumes no prior data modeling knowledge, and therefore, there are no prerequisites. Steve Hoberman has been teaching data modeling since 1992 and the material is updated biannually to reflect the latest trends in our industry. Over 500 slides, 30 exercises (including fun quizzes with prizes!), and 20 hours of instruction ensure you leave the class knowing how to create proper data models.
There are three modules: Module 1 on Fundamentals, Module 2 on Scheme, and Module 3 on the Scorecard. After completing Module 1, you will be able to explain the benefits of data modeling, apply the five settings to build the “right” data model, and properly use each data modeling component (entities, attributes, representatives, relationships, subtyping, keys, hierarchies, and networks). After completing Module 2, you will be able to create conceptual, logical, and physical relational and dimensional data models. You will also be able to distinguish NoSQL data models from traditional in terms of modeling structure and approach. You will become competent in the Align > Refine > Design approach. After completing Module 3, you will be able to apply data model best practices through the ten categories of the Data Model Scorecard®. These categories are Correctness, Completeness, Scheme, Structure, Abstraction, Standards, Readability, Definitions, Consistency, and Data. You will know not just how to build a data model, but how to build a data model well. Through the Scorecard, you will be able to incorporate supportability and extensibility features into your data model, as well as assess the quality of any data model.
Steve Hoberman will teach his next virtual five-day Data Modeling Master Class October 2-6 2023, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm EDT (New York time).
Each attendee receives over $400 of books, including digital copies of The Rosedata Stone, Data Model Scorecard, Data Modeling Made Simple, and Blockchainopoly, along with a digital copy of the Data Modeling Master Class Training Manual.
Even though this is a virtual class, we cap the size at 15 to allow for small-group interactions and discussions.
This class cannot be recorded (audio or video), and this registration is just for one person. That is, more than one person is not allowed to view the class unless that person is also registered. A computer camera is needed to see each other (as close as possible to being in the same room).
Please adjust the quantity above for the number of people attending from your organization. If three or more people attend from the same organization, the fourth person is free.
There are no refunds for this class but you can substitute someone else if needed.
If you would like the full Master Class to be taught to your team or department, or even a subset of the material (e.g. a one-day Fundamentals class), please complete this form and we will respond within 24 hours. Modelware Systems teaches this class in South Africa, and TEDAMOH teaches this class in German.
