The Data Modeling Master Class is the course on data modeling, and is offered live online twice a year publicly or as a dedicated class just for your group. This data modeling training class assumes no prior data modeling knowledge, and therefore, there are no prerequisites. Steve Hoberman has been teaching data modeling since 1992 and the material is updated biannually to reflect the latest trends in our industry. Over 500 slides, 30 exercises (including fun quizzes with prizes!), and 20 hours of instruction ensure you leave the class knowing how to create proper data models.

There are three modules: Module 1 on Fundamentals, Module 2 on Scheme, and Module 3 on the Scorecard. After completing Module 1, you will be able to explain the benefits of data modeling, apply the five settings to build the “right” data model, and properly use each data modeling component (entities, attributes, representatives, relationships, subtyping, keys, hierarchies, and networks). After completing Module 2, you will be able to create conceptual, logical, and physical relational and dimensional data models. You will also be able to distinguish NoSQL data models from traditional in terms of modeling structure and approach. You will become competent in the Align > Refine > Design approach. After completing Module 3, you will be able to apply data model best practices through the ten categories of the Data Model Scorecard®. These categories are Correctness, Completeness, Scheme, Structure, Abstraction, Standards, Readability, Definitions, Consistency, and Data. You will know not just how to build a data model, but how to build a data model well. Through the Scorecard, you will be able to incorporate supportability and extensibility features into your data model, as well as assess the quality of any data model.

We cap the size at 15 to allow for small-group interactions and discussions.

This class cannot be recorded (audio or video), and this registration is just for one person. That is, more than one person is not allowed to view the class unless that person is also registered. A computer camera is needed to see each other (as close as possible to being in the same room).
